Yesterday was a holiday in New Zealand for Anzac day. In our family, it means it's my sister's birthday, and has been my mum's birthday the day before hand. So we've been eating cake and going out for tea and not having proper lunches because of the holiday/birthdays!
So I decided to go for a decent run on my day off. I've also had that NASTY ANNOYING INJURY that's been putting me off my runs recently. Hence why I was mega keen to get out there yesterday!
I planned a 6 km run on mapmyrun that ended with a distance for a cool down. I ran without my ipod in - I use it as an incentive for if I find the run tough. I say to myself "Just to the next corner and you can use your ipod" instead of having to walk. Once I'd done my 6km, I realised that I still had a big of energy, so I ran a bit further and ended up running 7.5 km! A cheeky extra 1.5km hahaha
It's always great to exceed your goals. Can't wait to do it again!

What I've learnt today
Saturday, two games of netball, won both (smashed both, actually!) and one sore knee.
I only played one quarter of the first game, but the whole of the second. Man it is so awesome to be back! Our team did some beautiful plays and passes (and some ugly ones, but let's not think about those haha), and everyone was soo lovely!
To be honest, my knee was a bit sore.
BUT THEN...
My awesome friend Kylie came over to my house and gave it a mean as sports massage. I LOVE having PE and dietian friends lol
So, things I learnt about giving a massage
1. Massage in the direction of the blood flow, i.e., towards the heart. Don't know why this is, but just do it.
2. The harder you go, the slower you go.
3. Massage with a flat hand to begin with, to warm the muscle up. Then you can use thumbs/fingers/knuckles/noses/ears whatever tickles your fancy.
3. Shave your legs before you have a leg massage
4. Don't leave the Anti-Flamme on the floor with the top open, and accidentally stand on it so anti-flamme goes everywhere. My room is going to smell like peppermint for days.
Yes I know there are two threes. I was lazy.
Kylie also said that my right knee was close to going too. So she's offered to give me another one on Tuesday!! AND we found powerade in her car right when I said I felt like one, AND she found some lipgloss in there too. What a great day!!!!!

Brown and blonde
I am SO FREAKING SICK OF INJURIES!
All this extra exercise is really taking its toll. I have never had so many injuries in this many months.
But then I've never wanted to exercise this much! So unfair that I want to so much, but can't. I played Netball on Tuesday (when I got injured), and was naughty and went to NB training on Thursday. I took it easy, but in hindsight, it probably didn't do me any good.
I'm supposed to have my first game tomorrow :( But I think I will probably end up a cheerleader instead!

On a completely unrelated note, my hair is an absolute mess. I desperately need to get it dyed, and a trim, and a wash! HAHA I've contemplated dying my hair back brown... but honestly it just does not suit me. My skin is faaar to pale. I'll just have to battle out with blonde!!
It looks heaps better blonde, I think. Ignore my sleepy/drunk eyes haha

Packing my running shoes!
Back from my holiday to Brisbane, Australia!

I have no pictures as I have no camera :( Hopefully I will get my Iphone soon so that I can finally have some way of taking photos haha
The whole time we were there, my friend and I wanted to go for a run. I KNEW I should have taken my running shoes! But my bag was packed (Haha pun!) with clothes, that I now know I didn't need. Bridie (the friend I was with) is a fitness fanatic. So we were both really missing running! We even got given free passes to a gym! It would have been perfect!
Moral: I am never travelling without my running shoes ever again!

Easier and easier
Today I did a 7km run. Running honestly feels like it is getting easier and easier. I felt like I could have run further if I'd set my mind to it; however I'd been mentally preparing to stop at one intersection in particular, so once I got to it, I stopped.
It was such a nice route! It was a beautiful day, there were people everywhere walking dogs and children, and I ran along the river. I ran the whole thing with music; this might explain my time of 46 minutes.
Bloody lucky I went for a run, cos I've had so much chocolate today! Hahaha Mum bought her church some little eggs, and there were heaps left over so I've been helping myself... not exactly good for my health!
Oh well. When I'm in Brisbane this week I will have to be careful to eat... carefully...
That's right! I'm going to Brisbane! And although I wish it were to watch the Queensland Firebirds play the Central Pulse on Sunday (Get up Manawatu!), it is for work a conference. Luckily, I am going three days earlier for a wee get-away :) And who can really complain about a paid trip away? After such a cruisey 5 day weekend (Thursday just felt like a weekend, cos I went to a gig and had a crazy drunk girls' night), and a holiday in a hot city with a casino and awesome shopping, I am going to be all laxed out, and rearing to get into work next term... well at least I hope so haha
Can't wait! Am debating whether or not to pack my running gears... maybe I'll knock off a cheeky 10km while I'm there (haha probably not).

6km
Am a wee bit hungover today, but I managed to knock off a 6 km run anyway. It took me 40 minutes though, which isn't ideal for my 13km run in 1 hour 15 minutes!! The 3km took me heaps longer than it should have - around 20 minutes. Usually I can do it in 16/17. So I must have been running pretty slowly!
At about the 4km mark, I put my ipod on, and I sped up. The one song that really got me going (or at least, I felt like I was going faster than normal), was from.... High School Musical hahahahahahahaha
I'm quite into my musicals, appearing in them at least. So, I actually know all the words to High School Musical, because it's one I've been in haha

I was a cheerleader... haha not really, we just wore their cosutmes once for a laugh. I am not a trained dancer! lol The two girls on the left are though - they're both ahhhmazing dancers
This is what HSM will do to you. It will make you do the biggest smiles you have EVER done. I'm pretty sure you can see my back teeth in this photo. That weird black thing on the side of my face, by the way, is a mic. That's right, I was awesome enough to have a mic hahaha
We were actually geeks! Or Gabriella's friends. These are the faces we imagine geeks make haha We got to have sexy as white lab coats haha.
So the moral of the story - HSM music will make you run faster! Hahaa

bread
I looooooovvve bread.
I regularly eat toast (EVERY morning), sandwiches, buns, muffins, pretty much anything bready I love.
This is usually fine!
But not croissants at 10.55 at night when I should be going to bed! Hahahaha
I could eat these allll day... or at least until I was crazy full
ANYWAY, I realised the other day, that females are at their peak of fitness when they're in their 20s!! Which, for me, is right now. I definitely feel it. I'm better at netball than I ever have been, I'm running more than I ever have, feel ahhmazing... But I don't want it to end hahaha

Well-bruised
I am well-bruised after Netball tonight! Cuts to my hands, massive bump on my leg, and a huge bruise is going to grow on my right arm by tomorrow!
Some defence players are mental. Chill Out. It is a social, indoor netball league. If you win, you will get a bar tab. Calm the eff down. There is no need to be messing with my limbs and pretty face! Hahaha
It's also a lot of fun getting under their skin though lol. Just a wee push here and there, a cheeky grin when you get a sweet as pass right from under their nose, nailing my shots when they've called that it's off. Shame.
Netball! I bloody love it!

I've fallen in love...
With 5km runs!
They are the perfect length for me. 3km seems too small now - I don't feel like I worked really hard unless I'm sprinting it. 10km was a huge effort, one that I'll repeat with difficulty! I think not having my ipod in really helped; I could focus on my breathing and goal.
So the 5km is perfect! I'm a bit tired but not totally buggered. I said my mum I'd meet here at her work in 30 minutes. "It'll be 30 minutes. My running's like clockwork." Hit it 5km mark, it was exactly 30 minutes hahaha it was a mostly flat run, with one short steep hill near the end which was a good challenge.
After I'd met up with Mum, we went for a walk along some tracks for about an hour.
Such a perfect afternoon. In fact I've had an amazing weekend! Dinner and movie on Friday with the bloke, day out to the river with him and lunch out and a few errands, drinks and dancing with the girls, dogging out with George on Sunday, and a good as run and a walk with my mum :) AND I've lost another kg! Couldn't ask for better!
Oh, and Kylie told me that 13km in an hour is outrageous lol so I've extended that to 1 hour fiftenn!
Now I'm off to go make an amazing salad for dinner even though I just ate a f*ck load of cheese and crackers hahaha om nom nom
