Last time I posted it was 2012, I was still 23, and I was yet to run in a Half Marathon.
Oh how things have changed! When I got into running at the beginning of 2012, there is no way that I would have thought I'd ever run a half marathon. I was struggling to run 1km. I started out with the goal of running a whole 3km. At the time, while I made progress quickly, it seemed like such a long way. I remember the first time I ran the whole thing I ran passed a friend and had to say that I couldn't stop to chat because I was on 'the best run of my life'.
I also remember the day I went for my first 5km run/walk, and I ended up running the whole thing. It was 10km all up. Thinking about that still makes me feel like a champion.
Now, a year on, I have run a 3km, a 10km, a 13km, and 19km of a Half Marathon.
More importantly, I feel healthier, I feel fitter, I feel like I am more capable of tackling things that seem hard, I have more to talk about with people, and I truly feel like I have something to be really proud of.
I have saved a goal for 2013 - to run the whole 13.1 miles (21 km) of a Half Marathon.
Bring on 13.1 in 2013, I cannot wait!
